Welcome to House in the Hills, designed as a home perched on the lower hills of the Otway Ranges in Victoria. Capturing breath-taking views of the Otway’s and surrounding landscape and farmland through its transparent structure. The architectural design embraces a modern aesthetic, adapting to the topography, whilst drawing on Australian vernacular and fundamental principles of architecture; functional, protective, and rugged. We’ve taken all these attributes and remixed them to get a hardy yet refined Australian country pavilion, that protects from the elements and opens up to embrace the landscape.
The spatial program includes a custom-designed kitchen, dining area, living space, four bedrooms, one main bathroom, and a Master Bedroom ensuite. The home features extensive outdoor spaces including a large wrap-around feature deck providing access to all living areas and feature garden courtyards, blurring the lines between indoors and outdoors.
House in the Hills achieves a 7 Green Star Rating, with adapted passive house principles to suit the Australian climatic conditions and lifestyle. The residence has options for including a mechanical heat recovery ventilation system and a heat pump system for enhanced energy efficiency. Full-height windows and a feature highlight window flood the open floor plan living area with natural light, while an office/study captures the panoramic vistas.
The plans for this house are available on a limited-edition basis, exclusively available for purchase at Abode by Atelier George.
